Overview:
The 4th Squadron of the 3éme Régiment de Spahis, 3éme DIA was assigned the task of clearing and securing the strategic Camp crossroads controlling the roads to Aubagne. Having reconnoitered the area earlier in the day, a plan was devised to take the German defenders by surprise. Intelligence estimated the poorly armed and motivated students of a German NCO school manned the defense. Captain Riviere signaled for the assault to begin shortly before 1800 hours. Dismounting from their halftracks, the Spahis advanced behind a screen of Sublieutenant Ponticelli's light tanks. This would be the first taste of combat for many of the Spahis and as they approached the village, the only signs of activity were some German soldiers cutting firewood.Attacker: Free French (3ème Régiment de Spahis Algériens de Reconnaissance, 3ème Division d'Infanterie Algérienne: 1er and 2ème Pelton, 4ème Escadron de reconnaissance "Effrayé"/1er and 2ème Pelton, 1er Escadron de chars légers "Egoutier"/Commando Ayral)

2023-03-12 | (D) Dave Mareske | vs | Paul Works | Free French win | A tough fight for the Germans. Paul had his Free French stay concealed and position everyone to move on Turn three, turning the game into a 4 turn game. The Germans eliminated 4 AFVs, but in their attempts to retake a building and get the last tank, they fell short. The Germans kept most of the HMGs out of the Victory area and they did a fairly decent job, though a sniper broke one of them and sort of unhinged the defense at that point. Good game.
2022-06-15 | (D) Pascal Boileau | vs | Laurent Tinture | Free French win | A very interesting scenario. I placed half of the SW out of the VC area to cover the entry zones. It works well until the AFV were fully operational. The German defense had begun to crumble during the turn 4 and totally collapsed at turn 5... At this moment, I conceded the victory to Laurent. It was really a nice and tense game !
2022-06-13 | (D) Stephen Stewart | vs | Kevin H | German win (VASL Log) | After Trudging through SSR7, which I STILL misinterpreted and still have no real idea of what it was supposed to do for the scenario, Kevin and I soldiered on. I loved the placement of the Overlays in this one. They were placed with due purpose and have great importance for this scenario. Having no SMOKE, the FF need to approach with cover. Germans are widely dispersed on the boards. I decided to leave all SW out of the village VC area, the buildings could be surrounded and the SW would simply fall into the enemies hands. Frontal assault allowed some conservative firefights on the outset. A handful of armor rolled around the top of the map into an array of halfsquads and dummies. A couple of 81mm Mortars were semi-protecting the top approach and ALL MG's were in the trees or a building or two far from the village. Most of the action seemed to take place on the top of the map. Flanking HT's and tanks found the MTR's destroying one vehicle and a 237hs destroy a HT with Passenger in CC. Retreating back into the bottom map, Kevin's MLF'ed tank follows suit only to get IMMOB by an 81mm Mtr. This caused the crew to bail in the same turn it 6'ed the Repair roll on the MA. I end up eliminating the Crew and capturing the IMM MA(X) tank...not much but hey!!! Look at ME MA!! A Tank! Canister ammo was plentiful and kept my infantry, what was left of it, at bay from truly being able to CA. Smoke depleted as usual so that left me with only one option...get in close and destroy as many tanks as possible. Tank kills HT - Mortar attack HT- CC attack Tank -Captured and destroyed when abandoned. Tank - ATMM in CC Tank - 1,1 at last turn of game by a crew... Lots of different colored troops makes this rainbow of a scenario at least pretty to watch progress. Tough situations caused me to perform desperate actions even after getting 2 heroes in MC's!! Tough fight that was stolen from Kevin's Victory Grasp
2022-06-05 | (A) Scott Fischbein | vs | Mark T | Free French win | Mark had a tough time with his recovery rolls... that's actually a huge understatement- he rolled something like 60% 6's! That made it a lot easier for me to maneuver around the village and surround him with AFVs and then move in the infantry for the kill. Interesting scenario with the setup/TI.
2022-06-05 | (D) Mark Thompson | vs | Scottf2(Free French) | Free French win (VASL Log) | Germans concede on their Player Turn 4. Free French masterfully moved Stuarts and M5 Hts in first turn to avoid detection and thereafter to remain out of PF range (but within canister range) and form Ht FGs, which decimated and/or resulted in capture of mortar and MG crews/squads. Germans hit back hard when MGs got rate, but that was far too infrequent to disrupt the Free French attack. Fun scenario, but major infirmity in design if recovery die rolls are too one-sided against Germans - in this case the Germans rolled 8 6s, and the mortars never got a shot off. Without them, the Stuarts of a skilled player like my opponent can run roughshod and the Hts can simply BU and/or avoid MG fire. Well played @Scott Fischbein! |
