Overview:
The 1st Panzer Division had been very successful several days into Operation Barbarossa making deep penetrations to the east. Just after midnight on 24 June, they were informed that their routes of march and attack boundaries would change. The 6th Panzer Division was locked in battle with the Russian 2nd Tank Division. 1st Panzer was ordered into this fight to assist in trapping and destroying the 2nd Tank Division and 11th Rifle Corps.
