Overview:

The Germans well-executed invasion captured Oslo on Arpil 9. The German 196th Infantry Division was assigned to attack southeast towards Sweden. This area was defended by the hastily mobilized 1st Norwegian Infantry Division and the 1st Artillery Regiment. The Norwegians deployed small “bridge groups” to guard the bridges over the Glåma River. On the morning of April 13, elements of the 196th and 163rd Infantry Divisions crosed the Glåma at Fossum. Major Wilck led his untested men against the apparent passive and confounded foe.
