Overview:

During the night of August 30 and September 1, preparations were being made for a raid across the Naktong River, with D and H Companies to provide supporting fire from Hill 209. As they were starting to move equipment up Hill 209, the North Koreans launched their surprise offensive to crush the Pusan Perimeter. Only sixty soldiers, five lieutenants, two HMGs, and two LMGs made it to the top of the hills. On September 1st, a daytime attack and three night attacks were repulsed by the Americans. The next day re-supply drops were made, but the defenders were only able to recover eleven hand grenades, two and a half cases of rations, one case of carbine ammo, two boxes of machine gun ammunition, a partial package of medical supplies, and twenty-one cans of beer.
