Overview:

On the evening of July 11th, shortly after the Invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky), German Lt. Goldschmidt and his platoon of Tigers joined forces with Cpt. Weber and a hundred unaccounted grenadiers of the Herman Göring Panzer Division. Headquarters ordered them to proceed westward along highway 115 toward Gela. Their mission was to link with the HG Panzer Regiment coming in from the north in an attempt to push the American's back to the beaches near Gela. Hiding in the foothills overlooking Ponte Dirillo were elements of the 82nd Airborne Division waiting to pounce from captured pillboxes.

2021-03-20(D) Neal Ulen vs German American winRemnants of the 82 Airborne harassed the Germans (making their way to Gela, Sicily to engage invading Americans) enough so they couldn't meet the EVP VCs. My opponent split his German forces coming on board, some up and over the hill, the rest along the base of the hill in the CA of the pillboxes. There's very little cover on the hill and the infantry mostly got chewed up, and in this scenario breaking/DMing infantry is just as good as elimination for exit VP, because if delayed enough those units will never make it off the board. I played my Shermans very carefully and actually managed to take out 3 of his Tigers (one lucky CH, and 2 deliberate immob). BUT, This seems like a VERY tough one for the Germans to win given the terrain, Americans dug into pillboxes and the EVP requirement. It's not often that 5 Shermans square off with 5 Tigers and at the end there's 4 Shermans (3 mobile) left, against 3 Tigers (2 mobile)
