SCENARIO CARD is below under User Files . . . .The opening assault on the Red October Factory complex the day before gained valuable ground. Although nearing the point of exhaustion, the Germans were determined to push forward in an effort to capture their original objectives and drive the Russians all the way to the Volga. The Russians, desperate to prevent the 62nd army from being cut in half, counterattacked in the south in order to buy the time needed to ferry the rest of the 39th Guards across the river.

2024-08-01(D) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall Russian win9.5 hrsThe onboard Russians must hold out as best they can until their substantial reinforcements enter the fray. The commissars will be instrumental in assisting this cause. And, of course, maintaining concealment as much as possible should be a priority. Turn 2 saw the Germans grab their first building in J31, but mostly the Russians were staunch. Knocking the German sniper out made taking even pot shots attractive if given the opportunity. Turn 3 saw the Germans grab the big building next door, and a building in the center, but the Russians still clung to western buildings. Retaking the big building in the east would prove to be a simple task for the Russians, as being next to the board edge with their concealed 628s, hero, and 9-2 allowed them easy access to wipe out the Germans in CC. The T-34s were relatively unstoppable too, knocking out an AC as they drove west to situate themselves for the sure fight that would take place here in the endgame. Turn 4 finally saw the Germans take full control of the western buildings, but a StuG fell in the east to the 9-2 and company, and they were all but booted from this sector entirely. The Stuka of course set its sights on taking out one of the T-34s with its bomb, succeeding. Turn 5 saw the Germans ground to dust before the inexorable advance of the Russians. It would all come down to how long they could hold out in the west, but it was really a foregone conclusion of when they would fall rather than if. German bodies continued to pile up with more of the same on Turn 6, but they still managed to maintain control. Turn 7 was low on actual casualties, but the Germans were down to two GO HS and a 8-1, as the Russians took back one hex of the big building. With the writing on the wall the Germans threw in the towel. Perhaps if you're a huge fan of Stalingrad fighting you'll enjoy this, but I found it to be exceedingly boring.
