Overview:
Major Shichiro Wakamatsu’s battlegroup had routed the Dutch defenders at the Tjater Pass and was continuing its advance toward the Wates fortified position (consisting of unfinished concrete casemates) just north of the Tolhek three forks crossroads. At the Wates position stood Lieutenant Colonel H. van Altena’s detachment from the Koninkije Militaire Academie-Royal Netherlands Military Academy (KMA) and some Ambonese recruits from the 3rd Infantry Depot at Lembang. He positioned his troops around the crossroads to await the Japanese attack. At 1700 hours, the Japanese struck.Attacker: Japanese (Wakamatsu Battle Group)
