Overview:
Major General Leland S. Hobbs' 30th Infantry Division kicked of Operation COBRA with and attack near Hébécrevon. Even after the short bombing which killed over 300 American troops, the early advances gave VII Corps commander General "Lightning Joe" Collins cause for encouragement; while the Germans of 7. Armee were fiercely holding their positions, these positions did not seem to form a continuous line and were susceptible to being outflanked or bypassed. One of these positions was held by a scratch force led by Eastern Front veteran Oberst Albert Kentner-who was known as a "...good engineer, but not much of a soldier."Attacker: American (Companies I 1nd K, 119th Infantry Regiment,30th Infantry Division and Company D, 743rd Tank Battalion)
Defender: German (Grenadier-Regiment 897, Kampfgruppe Kentner, Infanterie-Division 266)
